Heard fromone dependable source that mixing linseed oil into the cob mix and perhaps an earth plaster mix makes for an incredibly resilient exterior surface. Can anybody corroborate this?

Re: Linseed Oil mixed into Earth Plaster?
Sun, March 19, 2006 - 10:10 PMi, too, have heard this from dependable sources.
one source mixes the oil from higher concentration to lower.
the other, from lower to higher.
which is right?
both have worked!
bart says linseed oil is a refined oil and it is not necessarily good for you.
it definately gives off fumes.
i been sick, it's true.
leslie says try lime. it's caustic, instead

Mon, March 20, 2006 - 10:43 PMThanks for your input Leslie! Since you know the situation intimately I'll carefully consider lime. Check out the same string on the naural building tribe - it has some interesting tid-bits:

Re: Linseed Oil mixed into Earth Plaster?
Tue, March 21, 2006 - 12:40 PMi was just at emerald earth and they told me that all the earth plasters that they had mixed lime into had molded. on the other hand, they do oil their floors, which are similar to plaster. -

Re: Linseed Oil mixed into Earth Plaster?
Mon, March 27, 2006 - 5:51 PMMolded, that's interesting. Wonder if the fiber was straw, and if because lime
cures slowly and wants to stay wet, the fiber molded...
Haven't mixed clay with lime yet but interested in trying it...Anyone
have a good starter recipe?
Linseed oil definately can work, just look at some of the well-rained-on
benches the the Portland City Repair has done.
...And then there's the roof option...
